Privacy Policy

DOOMSTARE ("the App") is a focus app that helps you reduce mindless scrolling by triggering a face check when you spend too long in apps you've chosen to monitor. This policy explains what data the App accesses and what, if anything, leaves your device. It applies to both the Android and iOS versions of DOOMSTARE.

CameraAndroid + iOS

DOOMSTARE uses the front camera only during a face check. When a face check is triggered, the App briefly shows you your own live camera feed on screen so you can look at yourself before deciding whether to keep scrolling. The camera feed is processed on your device and is not recorded or uploaded by DOOMSTARE.

CameraiOS only

On some face checks, DOOMSTARE shows an optional, playful visual effect (a short, stylized version of your live camera feed) as an experimental feature. When this happens, that clip is sent to Decart (decart.ai), a third-party AI video processing service, solely to generate the stylized effect that's shown back to you. The clip is used only to produce that visual effect and is not used by DOOMSTARE for advertising, profiling, training, or sold to anyone. Decart's own handling of the clip is governed by their privacy policy.

Face Data (TrueDepth)iOS only

On iPhones with a TrueDepth camera, DOOMSTARE uses Apple's ARKit framework to detect and track your face during a face check (for example, showing a face outline/mesh and detecting whether you are smiling or your eyes are closed). This face geometry and expression data is generated and processed entirely on your device by Apple's ARKit framework — it is never saved to a file, never uploaded, and never leaves your device. It exists only in memory for the moment the face check is running and is discarded immediately afterward. DOOMSTARE does not use TrueDepth data for identification, does not compare it to any stored face profile, and does not share it with any third party.

PhotosAndroid + iOS

If you choose to save a photo from a face check, it is stored in your device's photo library. DOOMSTARE does not upload your saved photos anywhere and cannot see photos you haven't taken inside the App.

Detecting which app you're usingAndroid

On Android, DOOMSTARE uses the system Usage Access permission to detect which app is currently in the foreground so it can start the timer and trigger a face check for the apps you've chosen to monitor. This information is used on-device only and is not sent to our servers.

Detecting which app you're usingiOS

On iOS, DOOMSTARE uses Apple's Screen Time / Family Controls framework (FamilyControls / ManagedSettings / DeviceActivity) to know when you open apps you've chosen to monitor. Apple provides this information to the App in a privacy-preserving way; DOOMSTARE does not see your full app usage history, and this information is not sent to our servers.

NotificationsAndroid + iOS

DOOMSTARE may send local notifications (for example, to remind you of a face check or a session). These are generated on your device and do not require sending data to our servers.

Data that leaves your deviceAndroid

On Android, no camera images, no video, and no personal data leave your device through DOOMSTARE.

Data that leaves your deviceiOS

On iOS, the only data that leaves your device through DOOMSTARE is the short live camera clip sent to Decart when the optional stylized effect is used during a face check, as described above.

Nothing else leaves your device

Aside from the case described in "Data that leaves your device [iOS]", DOOMSTARE does not upload your camera feed, your photos, your app usage, your location, or your contacts. We do not run advertising SDKs inside the App and do not sell your personal data.

What we don't do

• We don't record video or audio in the background.
• We don't track your location.
• We don't read your messages, contacts, or browsing history.
• We don't share your saved photos with anyone, ever.
• We don't sell or share camera data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than the face check and the optional Decart effect described above.

Children's privacy

DOOMSTARE is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
